Currently the only newsletter I subscribe to (and actually read every week) is the Girl’s Night In newsletter. I’ve mentioned it before but haven’t really elaborated on what the newsletter is or why I love it. At its core, GNI is a newsletter for women who would rather stay in than go out. It’s full of self-care tips, recipes, product reviews, interviews, and long read links. Honestly, I love it because I’ve truly enjoyed everything they’ve sent me to read.
The newsletter comes every Friday morning to my email inbox and helps me start the day (and weekend) on a happy note. Usually I’ll open it on my computer and scroll through to see what links and articles I want to look at. Then I’ll open those in a bunch of tabs and leave them there to read when I have a spare few minutes or need a small break during the day. This was particularly good while I was working on a campaign since it helped me decompress for a few minutes at a time throughout the day.
I also thoroughly love the idea and spirit behind GNI. This newsletter is centered around helping women relax and take care of ourselves and shares ideas on how to do a girl’s night in with yourself, your pet, and/or your friends. It makes me feel significantly less guilty for those (frequent) times when I’d much rather stay in and cook, drink wine, do a face mask, and binge-watch Queer Eye than go out and meet a friend at a bar or a party. It helped spark the idea for the great cookie baking adventure from last weekend. And when I shared the newsletter with my former coworkers, it gave us something to talk and laugh and think about together as we read the articles that are shared in each newsletter.
You can probably tell from the content of my blog posts so far that I love cooking and skin care and other things that are usually thought of as self care. And I do. But GNI also pushes the concept of self care further in ways that I think are important. They’ve had interviews about making sure you have your finances in order and what it’s really like to start your own business and how to manage and track your period and fertility (if you’re into that whole having babies thing, idk). Yes, there are always links to cute clothes or jewelry or pajamas–which I must say, I have also fully enjoyed–but I think this newsletter is doing an excellent job at recognizing that women want that in addition to more serious issues and articles, not instead of.
If you somehow made it this far into my post without signing up for this newsletter, you should remedy that and sign up here because I truly think it will improve your Fridays. And if you’re the type who likes to test drive before you commit (even though this is free and there are literally no strings attached), here’s this week’s newsletter!
xoxo,
J

GNI is the only newsletter I open every week too, thank you for introducing me to it!
