I’ve had an apple watch for a little over a year now and I love it. To be honest, it probably isn’t something that I would’ve purchased for myself (Brandon got it for me for… Valentine’s Day?), but that’s because I wasn’t quite sure how to use it when I got it. But now that I understand how to use it I totally love it and am 100% sold. I have a series 3 watch so it’s cell-enabled, meaning it adds an additional $10/month to my cell phone bill but that I can leave the house without my phone and use my watch instead. The earlier versions connect to your phone via bluetooth so your phone still has to be nearby for it to work.
My favorite function of my apple watch is using it as a workout and movement tracker. You’ve probably seen the three rings before–the goal is to close each ring every day. One tracks calories burned, one tracks exercise minutes, and one tracks standing hours (you have to stand up and move around for one minute every hour in order for it to count). I’m a very goal and award motivated person, so trying to close all my rings every day–and competing against my friends who also have apple watches–is very motivating and forces me to try to move around a bit each day. It also helps me gauge how hard I’ve pushed myself during my workouts.
I also use my apple watch to send short text messages when I’m away from my phone. It takes some getting used to since the options are talk to text or draw to text but it’s pretty ideal when you just need to reply quickly. Having my texts come to my watch also helps me know when a text has actually come in versus those moments when you think you feel or hear your phone buzz but it hasn’t.
I think the best thing about using an apple watch is that it has cut down on the amount of times I check my phone or look at my phone. I know that if there’s something important it will buzz my watch (since I’ve deactivated the watch notifications of all apps that aren’t the important communications ones for me) and if it hasn’t buzzed my wrist, then it’s something that can wait.
Do you have an apple watch and love it? Is there an app that you love that I should be using?
xoxo,
J

I’ve been considering getting an Apple Watch my Fitbit eventually dies, and I think you just sold me. Do you like the activity tracker of the Apple Watch better than Fitbit?

I had a Fitbit before the Apple Watch (and really liked it) and my experience has been that the Apple Watch is better and more accurate at tracking my workouts. I especially like that I can “start” a workout on my watch and see my heart rate/calories burned for the workout. (When I had a Fitbit that wasn’t available but idk if it is now.) I also like that it’s basically two devices in one—a phone and an activity tracker.

Oooh that’s good to know! I’ll have to start saving up for an Apple Watch now!
