One of the first things that struck me when I moved to the East Coast was how close everything is. You can drive for two hours and pass through like three states, which is totally different from the West Coast. Back home you can drive for ten hours and still be in California. Since everything is so close together I want to make it a point to explore more before I move away. (No, this is not a post telling y’all that I decided when I’m going back to California, I’m still in DC for the foreseeable future.)
I actually really enjoy road trips–probably because growing up my family drove everywhere instead of flying. There’s something about loading up the car with road trip supplies (in addition to my suitcase filled with way too many clothes) that’s just more fun than flying. I always pack way too many of my favorite snacks from Trader Joe’s (Ghost Pepper chips, dried mango, Chicago-style popcorn), download an audiobook that I pretend I’m going to listen to, and put on my comfiest athleisure clothes. (I really don’t understand people who road trip in jeans–who are you???)
Some places I want to visit on the east coast (or that are more accessible from the east coast):
- New England to see the ~fall foliage~
- aka do a driving tour through all the states and stay in classic New England cottages
- Boston
- Charleston
- Savannah
- Disney World (as a Californian, I’ve been to Disney Land but never Disney World)
- as many National Parks as possible
- as many wineries as possible
- the Jersey/Maryland shore (I’ve technically been to the Jersey shore but it was for Thanksgiving so I’m not counting it as a real beach trip)
- Philly
- Independence Hall
- New York City
- Gettysburg
- Columbus (this was way cuter than I had anticipated, so don’t hate on this recommendation)
- DC (obviously)
