The other day Brandon and I were talking about the favorite dates we’ve been on together. It was fun to sit and think about all the different things we’ve done together as well as all the things we still want to do and places we want to go. I mentioned earlier that this year one of our goals is to do regular date nights to take time for ourselves and to try new things. In the spirit of that goal, I made two lists: one of some of my favorite dates we’ve been on and one of some more date night ideas (especially as it starts to be tolerable outside again).
When we lived in Harrisburg, PA we lived super close to City Island–like an easy 15 minute walk (if that) that was always gorgeous since it meant walking along the river and then across a bridge lined with twinkle lights. Literally sounds like it’s out of a fairy tale except for the Harrisburg part. City Island is where we had many date nights that were so much fun and actually really cheap. When we first moved there we discovered a tiny mini golf course on City Island and that quickly became a go-to spot for afternoons and evenings when we wanted to be outside but not at a restaurant. It was so nice to grab an ice cream or popsicle from the stand and go mini golfing!
City Island is also home to Harrisburg’s minor league baseball team: the Senators. If you haven’t been to a minor league baseball game let me recommend it times a hundred. They’re so so cheap (you can literally get tickets behind home plate for like $20) and they’re a wild time. The Senators had an “all male dance team” that would perform between innings that was made up of the guys who maintained the field that was always hilarious. Plus it’s the perfect excuse to sit outside with a beer and a burger and shout at people which is pretty ideal and great bonding.
Another one of my favorite things to do as a couple (great bonding but also often hilarious) is to try a workout class together. I’ve dragged Brandon to a few Cyclebar classes with me and it’s always a hit. It’s fun see him a little out of his comfort zone and fun to work out together. And we usually go in the morning so we can grab breakfast afterwards. Usually we walk over to Union Market and grab something and sit outside to eat it before walking back home to stretch our legs out.
Okay, now for the quick and dirty list of other ideas that I’ve done or want to do:
- picnic (bonus if there’s wine)
- find a local dive bar
- have a campfire and try new s’mores combinations
- go hiking (complete with summit beers)
- wine tasting
- buy tickets for an activity you haven’t done on Groupon
- go to a hockey game (I’ve never been!)
- road trip to a small town nearby to explore
- find local street fairs
