Since I’m going on a girls trip for a long weekend this week I thought it would be good to share my packing list. I’m a notorious overpacker–probably because I’m still traumatized from a spring break trip home from college when I just dumped my laundry basket into my suitcase and assumed I’d be good with that, only to end up with no underwear and no pants because I forgot that I’d just done laundry a few days before. Since then I’ve been extra careful to make sure I have everything I need and then some.
General disclaimer that I’m taking the Amtrak train from DC to NYC so I’m packing things that wouldn’t be allowed on an airplane, but things that are girls weekend essentials that I’d just rather not have to buy once I get to New York.
- Instant camera and film. For our anniversary one year Brandon gave me an instant camera–this is an excellent gift if you’re trying to think of something for a friend or partner–and I’ve tried to take it on every trip since then but I often pack it and forget to use it. Not this time.
- Face masks. I have a giant collection of sheet masks so I make sure to bring them every time I visit friends so we can do them together!
- Everything for my skincare routine. Luckily, my moisturizer and eye cream are actually a size that’s allowed in your airplane carry-on, but I’ll be able to pack my toner as well for the train. I’m bringing my TJ’s rose water toner since Scout ate my other bottle yesterday.
- Bottles of wine and champagne. I’m going to stop by TJ’s before my train leaves to grab some bottles to celebrate with. I could easily buy wine once I get to NYC but it’ll be easier for me to bring them with–and I won’t have to fight the New York Trader Joe’s crowds.
- Snacks and breakfast foods. Along with the wine, I’ll be packing some non-perishable snacks and breakfast foods so that we’ll have some food in our Airbnb and we can maybe cut down a little on our eating out budgets,
- Bandaids and Tylenol. Just in case.
- My bullet journal, an extra mini notebook, and pens.
- A book–I’m going to bring Becoming by Michelle Obama because it feels like a perfect train book.
- My purse, filled with all my essentials (of course).
- Headphones, chargers for all my devices–again an obvious essential, but I always put it on the packing list just in case.
- Comfortable shoes since we’ll be walking all around the city. Odds are I’ll be wearing my signature dresses and sneakers all weekend. I’m going to try to take lots of pictures this weekend since that’s something I always want to do but forget. And luckily, I live in a city so I don’t have to really worry about my clothes not being safe to wear on the subway or not being comfortable walking for blocks and blocks.
- A nice outfit to wear to a Broadway show. I’ll throw in a pair of my favorite espadrille wedges so that I can dress up a little for the show but still be fine walking to the theater.
- Easily carried luggage. Essential for when you’re traveling into a city. I’ll likely pack a roller suitcase and a backpack that can slide onto the suitcase handle. And a small purse that can be packed into the backpack while I’m traveling and then pulled out once I can put my luggage in the Airbnb.
So I know it seems a little bit like a round up of my previous posts, but that’s probably because I actually use and love the things that I’ve been writing about here! And these are things that I take with me no matter where I’m traveling to–when it’s longer than a weekend trip the only things that change are the number of outfits and books included. I’m beyond excited to finally get to go on this girls weekend that we’ve been talking about for so long!
