As someone who grew up right by Apple Hill, I have a special appreciation for fall and all things apples. It also means that I’m sure to always have a crock pot full of mulled apple cider all season long. Here’s my super secret recipe:
Ingredients
1 gallon apple cider (this is NOT apple juice and it’s far better when you buy it from a farm or orchard)
2 cinnamon sticks
2 lemon or orange slices
1 inch ginger root
1 1/2 tablespoon mulling spices
Whiskey (if desired)
Recipe
- Pour your apple cider into a crock pot.
- Put your mulling spices into an empty tea bag (I got some at a grocery store ages ago, they’re like these ones), close the tea bag, and drop it into the crock pot.
- Add in your cinnamon sticks, citrus slices, and ginger root.
- Turn your crock pot to the “warm” setting–you’re not trying to cook anything, just warm it all up. Allow the cider to warm and the spices to ~infuse~
- Ladle into mugs, add whiskey if you want it.
Enjoy! This pretty much keeps for as long as you want it. I tend to just keep it going all season long and just keep adding in new cider and switching out the citrus slices as needed. And in addition to tasting great it makes your house smell amazing!!

J
P.S. These mulling spices are amazing and are also excellent for making mulled wine!
