If you’ve ever lived with me or seen me early in the morning you can probably attest to the fact that I am definitely not a morning person. I have trouble falling asleep so I never want to wake up earlier than I have to. But when I started to work out more consistently I decided to try to force myself to become at least a little bit more of a morning person and get my workouts done early. I’m going to apologize right now because, unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a trick but I’ll tell you what I do since you asked.
My alarm goes off at 6 and I force myself to get out of bed immediately. If I don’t get up right away I won’t get up at all so I have to do it. I put on my workout clothes and then sit down and drink a glass of water and eat a banana if I remembered to buy them at the store. I grab the bag that I keep my spin shoes and water bottle in and leave to walk to class. I live about a mile and a half away from the studio so the walk to class helps me wake up all the way before I have to get on a bike and be energetic.
After class I walk home and have coffee and breakfast and shower and do my skincare routine. My studio has showers and towel service so theoretically I could shower and do my routine there, but right now I don’t have anywhere to be right after class so I just head home.
Like I said, there doesn’t really seem to be a secret trick to waking up early other than just forcing yourself to do it and getting into the habit. The most helpful thing for me has been that I have a pre-packed bag with my shoes and water bottle and wallet. It also helps that if I ditch a class I’m going to have to pay a cancellation fee and I don’t want to do that. I’m embarrassingly motivated by not wanting to waste money.
If you know some magic secret into waking up early and being ready to roll please please please drop it in the comments.
xoxo,
J
