I love to read, especially novels. While I was in law school I didn’t have much time to read for fun–when you’re reading hundreds of pages of cases each night the last thing you want to do after you’ve finished your homework is pick up another book–and when I graduated I just wasn’t in the habit of reading anymore. So last year I decided to set a goal for myself to read 52 books over the course of the year. That’s a book each week. I thought this was pretty ambitious and wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it. Well. Turns out it wasn’t that difficult for me to get back into the habit at all. I read 77 books in 2018.
The number one thing that was responsible for me being able to accomplish my goal was the DC Public Library. When you’re trying to read so many books it can get expensive fast. And it can get heavy fast. The library allowed me to read an amazing number of books for free! And my absolute favorite part o the DC library is their mobile app, Libby. Libby is the library version of the app Overdrive and lets you use your library card to check out ebooks and audiobooks and read/listen to them on your phone, ipad, kindle, or your computer! This was ideal for me since it allowed me to read on my commute to and from work on the metro without adding more weight to my bag. I’d just open to app on my phone and be good to go!
