A few weeks ago Brandon graduated with his Masters in Political Management from George Washington University. (You probably remember him talking about it coming up on his last guest post.) He’s pretty excited about it (understandably so) and I thought y’all might want to see some ~photo evidence~ of the day.
GW has two graduation ceremonies for graduates. The first is a school-specific one. As in you graduate with other students who were in similar programs under the same school (within the larger GW community) as you. Brandon was in the School of Professional Studies so his graduation was on Saturday night. Not ideal for taking pictures or really for eating since it was smack dab in the middle of dinnertime. But it was super nice! I don’t think I really realized just how big GW is until that moment. We sat in the basketball gym and the bleachers were super full! On a selfish note I finally got to bust out this dress that I got last year that I hadn’t had an occasion to wear yet so thanks for graduating Brandon.
After the first graduation we went out to a super late night dinner with our friend and her family–I’m talking dinner finished at 1am kind of late–that was full of laughs and tropical drinks in silly mugs. It was a bit messy, but what kind of graduation would it be if it wasn’t a little bit messy? I think everyone had a great time despite being exhausted from the graduation festivities.
Part two of GW graduation is a graduation for all GW students. Undergraduates and all the graduate students. On the National Mall. GW’s claim to fame (well one of them, I’m sure there are more but hey, I didn’t go there) is that they are the only school to graduate on the National Mall. Right in front of the Washington Monument! Way cool.
However, because of the super late night the night before, we all decided to skip the early morning graduation (also because it was like 90 degrees and ain’t nobody got time for that) and just meet up afterwards with the *graduates* in their gowns for photos on the Mall. And I am so glad we did. We got some excellent pictures of Brandon and my lovely friend Lara popping champagne bottles on the Mall in their gowns. This one is my favorite.
And of course, one of me and Brandon together. (Going to take a quick second to note that I’m once again wearing a Gal Meets Glam collection dress–well, two piece–and it’s amazing. Linen is a game changer for the summer. Fully endorse.) It was truly hot as hell on the Mall and there isn’t really any shade so we basically took our pictures and jumped into a Lyft to go to brunch at our favorite brunch spot.
Overall it was a great graduation weekend and I hope that Brandon would agree (I’m pretty sure he would).
If you graduated (or are about to) CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve worked hard and please pop a bottle to celebrate–tell your family I told you to.
