No, this isn’t a list of books that I’m reading. This is a roundup of articles and such that I’ve recently read and enjoyed (or are on my list of things to read). Some of them are a bit older, but I think they’re all super interesting and worth checking out!
What I usually do is open each one in a new tab and read them when I have a spare moment. These definitely cover a lot of different ground, but hey, we all have layers, I guess this is a peek into some of mine.
Men Have No Friends and Women Bear the Burden
Super interesting read about how men handle their feelings (or don’t) and how the consequences often fall to women. And what some men are doing to change that and take care of themselves better emotionally.
The Radical Act of Embracing Your Own Mediocrity
This came out of a GNI newsletter and they mentioned it in the context of watching JVN (the grooming expert from Queer Eye, and an amazing stand-up comic, among other things) learn how to figure skate on his Instagram. (If you haven’t watched his journey, I highly recommend it.) He doesn’t gloss over the hard stuff and lets everyone see him fall. Which is something I need to be better at in my own life so I applaud him.
How to Pre-Batch Cocktails for Parties
This is extremely my interests. I love Old Fashioneds and am so excited about the idea of making them in a big batch for a party instead of making them one at a time. As fun as it is to play bartender, I also love actually getting to speak to people at my parties.
Job Search Depression
You all know that I was recently job hunting (for what felt like forever). Lucky for me, I was unemployed at the same time as many of my friends (our jobs ended at the same times, I promise we weren’t all fired), so I had a great support system. But this piece really helped me feel like I wasn’t making things up–job search depression is real and there is actual science to back it up. If you’re currently unemployed or under-employed I think reading this would be super helpful. One of my friends who I was unemployed with sent it to our group chat and everyone thought it was amazing.
That’s all for now! I think four pieces feels like enough to get us all reading on a Monday.
Do y’all like this idea of me sharing the articles I’m reading with you? Something I should keep doing? Let me know!
xoxo,
J
