One of the things on my wish list for Christmas was this Love and Lemons cookbook and apparently my family does indeed read my blog because they got it for me! I was originally interested in this cookbook because it’s beautiful and looks like a great reference book for vegetable-based dishes. And let me tell you, it’s definitely lived up to and exceeded my expectations!
The book is sorted into recipes that are based around different ingredients–basically it starts with an apples section and continues down the alphabet with recipes that include each fruit or vegetable–and is entirely vegetarian. Now, I’m not actually a vegetarian but I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of meat I eat and find new ways to cook and eat vegetables so I was excited about these dishes. But as a non-vegetarian I was also a little worried that I wouldn’t feel full after eating wholly vegetarian meals (some of them are even vegan). After making about four or five of these recipes I can now say that that fear was misplaced and everything I’ve made has been SUPER filling and delicious!
I’ve made cauliflower tacos (that included a recipe for greek yogurt chipotle sauce that I’ve been putting on literally everything since I made it), sweet potato nachos, carrot grain salads, and so many other delicious dishes! The recipes range from easy pretty much throw it together meals to things that require making your own salad dressing in a blender but they’re all super doable–even if you’re not an expert in the kitchen. I also love that it includes reference sections in the back about how to quickly make sauces and doughs and dressings! Also if you’re vegan or gluten free there are notes and the bottom of each recipe that say which modifications or substitutions to make to make the recipe work for you, which I think is super cool even though I’m neither of those things.
Basically, if you’re looking to reduce the amount of meat you’re consuming or you just love beautiful cookbooks I cannot recommend this one enough. Seriously, Love and Lemons is so good that I’m now eyeing the second version: Love and Lemons Everyday.

J
