Welcome to today’s edition of Housebound Happy Hour! Here are a few easy cocktail recipes I’ve made recently with gin. I’ll be sharing the full recipe with notes for any substitutions I’ve made due to ~social distancing~. All of these recipes make 1 drink.
Dirty Gin Martini
2 oz gin (or vodka, but I don’t like vodka sooooo)
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1 to 2 teaspoons olive brine (to taste–olive brine is the liquid in the olive jar)
Olives to garnish
- Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice (note: I usually use 2-3 ice cubes because I don’t have an ice maker). Add gin, vermouth, and olive brine. Shake until blended.
- Strain into chilled glass (note: you can chill your glasses by filling them with ice water while you make your drinks). Garnish with olives.
Gin Sour
2 oz gin
3/4 oz lemon juice (substitution: if you run out of fresh lemons you can absolutely use lemon juice from that little bottle that’s shaped like a lemon)
3/4 oz simple syrup (this is basically sugar water, you can make it yourself or you can buy it I’m not judging)
Lemon twist
- Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake until blended.
- Strain into chilled glass and garnish with lemon twist.
Tom Collins
2 1/2 oz gin
1 3/4 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
club soda (substitution: I don’t have club soda so I used sparkling water)
lemon slices to garnish
- Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add gin, lemon juice, simple syrup. Shake until blended.
- Strain into chilled glass. Top with club soda and garnish with lemon twist.
You’ll probably notice that a lot of the cocktail recipes I’ll be posting have very similar ingredients and you can blame my pantry and bar cart for that but I promise they all taste different and they’re all great. Please let me know if you make any or if you’re also participating in Housebound Happy Hour!
xoxo,
J
