So we’ve all been working from home for about a month (I mean, if we’re lucky enough to have a job that allows us to work from home) and it’s super weird. I’m amazingly bad at adjusting my routines–if something throws me off or changes (like, say, a global pandemic forcing us all to stay in our homes), it takes a long time for me to establish a new routine and get back on track. So today I’m sharing what my ~ideal~ routine would look like as I work from home. I’m sharing this in an attempt to hold myself accountable to try to make this routine stick, but also so you all can get some ideas if you want them. I’d also LOVE to hear what your routines are looking like so I can get some ideas for how to improve mine.
7:30: wake up and do a yoga or HIIT workout or go on a walk with Scout and B
8:00ish (whenever workout is over): shower and get dressed (thankfully I have a job that doesn’t super require me to wear real clothes so leggings count as getting dressed)
8:30-9:00: have breakfast and coffee, journal and start working
whenever my call schedule allows me to: make and eat lunch (it has definitely been nice to be able to make lunches at home and not have to make them ahead of time)
5:00-7:00ish: go on a walk with Scout, have Housebound Happy Hour and learn to make a new cocktail/also make dinner (I’ve been using this time to try lots of new recipes from my favorite cookbooks, as well as pushing my improvising skills to the limits)
8:00-bedtime: relax with movie, games, books, etc
Bedtime routine:
- start my nighttea (shoutout to Apothekary for allowing me to purchase like 5 tins of this tea after they discontinued it)
- wash my face, get into PJs, start my diffuser with eucalyptus oil, brush teeth
- get into bed with my tea and read for about 20 minutes
This bedtime routine is pretty essential to me getting a good night’s sleep so I’ve been getting better at actually doing this part, but the morning routine is where I really get stuck. I know I feel better when I move my body but it’s been extremely difficult for me to transition from going to spin classes every day to trying to work out at home. A friend recommended starting my day with yoga and I love the idea and am going to try to incorporate it into my routine.
