One of the things that I’m selfishly really upset about with this pandemic is that I can’t go to Cyclebar classes right now. I’ve spent the past year and a half (almost) really getting into a good routine and groove and making it to between four and six classes a week. I rode my 200th class in early March and was well on my way to my goal of reaching 300 classes this year when the pandemic hit and obviously my studio hit pause on everything.
Personally, I find it really hard to work out at home. It’s part of the reason why it had been so hard for me to get into working out before I found Cyclebar and spin classes. (And I don’t have a Peloton because lol where am I going to put that in my 600 square foot apartment?) So to be quite honest with you my home workout game is not going great. I’ve been on quite a few walks with Scout and B, but otherwise I’ve worked out maybe three or four times.
I included working out in the morning in my ideal WFH routine as a way to try to force myself to actually do it (and it worked–I did indeed work out yesterday). So today I thought I’d share some home workout resources in case you’re like me and having trouble motivating yourself to work out at home. Or if you’re looking to mix it up. Or if you’d like to help me work out at home and want to do this together (for real, reach out to me and I’ll FaceTime you while we both suffer through a workout at home).
First, Girl’s Night In put together this amazing spreadsheet that you can save and look through that pulls together a WHOLE BUNCH of home workout programs and sites. It has everything from free YouTube workout channels to national studio’s platforms. And it includes a column that tells you the cost of the program as well as what type of equipment you’ll need. Seriously, this is an amazing spreadsheet and I’m going to try so many of these.
Second, take a look at what your favorite trainers are doing. Cyclebar can’t really move their spin classes online, but the trainers are offering different things to help you get moving anyway! Some are curating workout playlists, some are offering their own classes like HIIT and yoga and meditation via Zoom. If you have the money to spare, I’d encourage you to go this route since our fitness instructor friends could use our monetary support right now while the studios are closed.
And finally (this is my personal last resort) you could go for a run. I loathe running–I won’t do it unless I absolutely have to. I have a policy of not running for public transit and honestly not running unless it’s absolutely necessary. But this pandemic has me considering going out for a run. (Note: I haven’t done it yet, so you know I haven’t cracked quite yet). But if you’re in DC and want to drive up to one of the tracks and run in a different lane with me (this was my mom’s idea and honestly it’s brilliant), let me know and I’ll suck it up and meet you.
How are you getting moving at home? Are you stuck in a rut like me? Have you found something that works?
