A disclaimer at the top: I know a lot of us are having to prioritize needs right now so this post is likely irrelevant and frivolous, but also I wanted to share some things that are making me happy that I bought during this time or that I already had that I’m using even more now.
Okay first are these slippers. I got them in pink because of course I did and I’ve been wearing them every day. I don’t like wearing shoes inside the house (and my other slippers shrank after I had to wash them because the puppy puked on them) so slippers are pretty essential for me if I’m going to be inside constantly. These are the perfect balance of warm and breathable since your toes are free and they have a real bottom so if you want to you can wear them to grab the mail or let the dog out. (Also got these for B since he needed slippers as well and he’s obsessed with them.)
Underbares bras. If you’re like me and you want to be cozy but you also want some support (i.e. I don’t like not wearing a bra–I need some support), Underbares are for you. I have three everyday bras and I love them so much. I wear them constantly in my regular non-pandemic life but they’re extra essential for coziness when you’re inside and working from home and wanting to be comfortable since your brain is likely not comfortable. As a bonus, Underbares is a small woman-owned company based here in DC and run by my wonderful friend Genevieve.
Cozy clothing. Like most of you probably are, I’ve been wearing pretty much exclusively athleisure clothing. Thankfully my job doesn’t require me to put on real professional clothing while we’re working from home. I’ve been wearing a lot of Athleta leggings and sweatshirts, as well as Everlane’s new leggings. If your job is requiring you to wear real clothing then first omg I’m so sorry, and second, I highly recommend these secret leggings from Athleta.
Wine. If you’re in DC I recommend ordering a box from Seco Wine. You can order online and then head over to their shop at PomPom DC to do a no contact pick up or you can choose delivery and they’ll bring it to you. I ordered Libby’s curated box first and I’ve been loving it, but you can also have their sommeliers curate a box specifically for you! You just put in a few words about what you like or dislike or what you’re looking for and they’ll make expert selections for you. I’m sure other restaurants in your city are doing something similar if you reach out. This has been a fun way to support a local business (with women somms!) while also getting excellent wine.
Grove Collaborative. This is a subscription box for organic and natural cleaning supplies. We started getting Grove boxes a few months before everything shut down with the pandemic and it’s been so helpful. Each month you get to select what you want sent to you (highly recommend doing this in their app)–you can get some things sent each month and some things just whenever you need them. It’s been great because it means we never run out of dishwasher soap or doggie bags (and those are compostable). And it means we’ve made some more sustainable trades–like using their cleaning concentrates in a reusable spray bottle (and the same for hand soap and laundry detergent). Highly recommend.
Book of the Month. And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t recommend reading as essential right now. Book of the Month is the best thing ever I’m obsessed. And my referral link gets you your first book for $5 which is truly wild. I absolutely love getting a new book in the mail every month and I love that they curate a list of new books for you to choose from each month since I often get overwhelmed at all the options in a book store and want to buy everything.
Hope you’re all staying safe and healthy!
xoxo
