Like many of you, I’ve been reflecting over the past few months about how and where I spend my money. I’ve been worried about the local small businesses that I love being able to make it out of this pandemic. So in that spirit I thought I’d share some of the businesses in DC that I’ve been spending my money at–maybe you’ll find something you love and want to support as well.
I know you aren’t all in DC so this may not be as relevant to you, but hopefully you’re inspired to find similar businesses near you (or you’ll discover one of these that offers shipping to you)!
This is a local natural beauty and skin care shop that I absolutely love. If, like me, you’ve been trying to transition to natural products for your skin, this is absolutely the place to shop. I recently picked up this cleanser and (Marissa will be particularly pleased with this one) this sunscreen. I also have this amazing highlighter that I cannot say enough great things about.
I know I talk about this one all the damn time but it’s truly a light in my week. It’s filled with great tips on how to take care of yourself (they’re doing a mental health series right now) along with articles to read and share in your group chat and book recommendations. They’re also a women-owned business from right here in DC, even though you can subscribe from anywhere to support them!
Another woman-owned business that I’ve fallen in love with. The founder brilliantly transitioned her restaurant into a curated wine business when restaurants closed and, I have to tell you, I wish more restaurants would do this (and I hope they continue after they re-open). Seco has gotten me to try and fall in love with so many new types of wines–skin contact (aka orange), chilled reds, lambrusco! You can get one of their mood packs based on your astrological sign, pick a case curated by different local wine enthusiasts, or get a case curated specifically for you. They’re also offering groceries and meal kits with wine and cocktail pairings. Seriously, I’m obsessed.
Another of my staples that I constantly shout at y’all about but for real I have been wearing my everyday bra, well, every day. I was wearing it pre-pandemic, I’m wearing it during the pandemic, and you bet your ass I’ll be wearing it post-pandemic.
This is a local rum distillery that’s walking distance from my apartment. When things are open it’s the funkiest, most fun bar to visit and when things are closed you can still buy bottles of rum (and hand sanitizer) as well as their cocktail mixes. They have such interesting different types of rum–like Mellow Gold that’s distilled in bourbon barrels and Despaccino that’s made with coffee beans.
There are definitely more local businesses that I’ve been supporting, but I wanted to share a small sampling with you all today! What local businesses have you been loving lately?
