Going to start off my saying that yes, this is a post about jewelry and no, this is not a Valentine’s Day post. Three years ago I was trying to find the perfect present for my sister. She’s kind of difficult to shop for, mostly because she doesn’t want a lot of things (and because the things she does want she just buys for herself). Then I had a brilliant idea: sister rings.
I found these cute little stacking rings and decided that I would start buying us matching rings each year so we could add to our stacks.
This idea was inspired by something that my family used to do when I was younger. We used to go on girls’ trips that had all the women from my mom’s side of the family–so all my girl cousins, my aunts, my mom, and my sister. And on a few of these trips we ended up getting Thorpe girl rings. Mostly these were sterling silver rings from street vendors in San Francisco, but I loved them. I loved that we all had matching rings to connect us even though we lived in different cities, states, and countries.
But over the years most of us lost or broke the rings. So by the time I was looking for Christmas presents for my sister, I didn’t have any of the cousin rings anymore. And I wanted something that was a little bit more elevated than the silver rings we’d picked up years ago.
Enter Catbird Jewelry.
To be completely honest, at this point I’m not even sure how I found this shop. But I do know that I love it. Catbird has some really fun jewelry and some classic pieces, but the ones that I gravitate towards are the delicate Catbird brand rings. These are the ones that I’ve purchased for myself and my sister.
The first year I got us both these threadbare rings in yellow gold. They’re beautiful and delicate but still can stand up to being worn literally every day. I never take mine off. And I know my sister wears hers constantly as well–and she’s an artist who is regularly covered in paint!
The next year I chose the sweet nothing ring, again in yellow gold. These rings are so fun! They’re like little chain bracelets but for your fingers!!! Like, what, who thought of that? I love it. And they look so pretty next to the more traditional threadbare rings.
Finally, last Christmas I bought us both these little disco rings. Not going to lie, 80% of why I bought them was the name. It just sounds like a party, which I am definitely into.
So now we both have three rings stacked up on our fingers. Though to be honest the stack isn’t tall since they’re such small and delicate rings (which I think is ideal), so there’s definitely room for more rings!
I’m thinking that next year I might go for the twisted stacker ring. Or maybe the classic hammered ring. Or maybe I’ll mix it up and throw in a rose gold ring! Who knows? (Even if I did I certainly wouldn’t tell you since I want it to be a surprise for my sister.)
xoxo,
J
