I don’t know what it’s like where you all are reading this from, but here in Washington, DC it’s beginning to look and feel like Spring! And I know from years of living here that this is a scam–it’s not actually really spring yet and there will probably be a cold snap in a week or so that makes me hate everything again. But for now, I’m going to pretend like it’s real. And I’m going to enjoy every second of it.
Spring always makes me happy, but that’s even more true this year. It’s been a long winter of staying inside and not getting to see the people I love. So seeing the sun come out and warm everything up and opening my windows to hear the little birds chirping feels so freeing and welcoming.
I’m trying to appreciate this new season by taking time to make new little rituals to welcome the season.
I’m enjoying my morning coffee ritual outside on our new front deck (okay, it’s really just a glorified stoop since I live in a DC rowhouse, but I’ll take it). I take my coffee and my book and sit in the sun and take a few minutes to soak it all up.
Yesterday B and I took the time to eat our lunch outside too. I made nourish bowls and we took them out to the front yard and took the moment to pause and enjoy both the food and the fresh air. He commented that it felt so so strange to be outside without a mask after so long and it’s true. But it made me even more thankful that we now have a place without outdoor space so we can safely sit outside without masks.
It’s also now warm enough to start planning hikes again! This is the sweet spot on the East Coast where it’s not too cold to want to hike and it’s not yet sticky and humid. So you’ll catch me planning a few outdoor excursions in the near future.
Finally, after months of wearing leggings basically every day, I opened up my closet and PUT ON A DRESS. I absolutely love wearing dresses and it felt so good and so much like me to finally be wearing a dress. Sitting on the front porch, wearing a dress, and enjoying the sun is where you’ll find me until it gets too sticky to bear.
What are you looking forward to with Spring? Let me know!
xoxo,
J
